Sticker Shock

I had dinner with Gwenn on Friday night, and she is also planning her wedding for next August.  I knew that things were expensive, but my goodness! its insane!!!  Just for some of my jaw dropping moments:

Photographer, $2,500-$4,000
Cake $600, plus $1.50 each slice to cut the cake
Invitations for 150:  $2,500
and the kicker….$20.00 MORE a head for alcohol!!!! are you kidding me??

Right now we have 180 on the guest list… we have to cut it down… I can live without a cake, just have a friend take some pictures, and try to make my own invitations (but yet that can still get costly). My fam and his fam don’t drink, so we are trying to figure out what to do…justin said he can hook us up with wine, but i’m not sure if we can do that… or just have a cash bar….decisions decisions….

Looks like Saginaw will be the location since it’ll be convienient….

Europe has been a bust as we have taken all day today (sunday) to research getting married…its just going to be too much of a headache… you get married by someone who doesn’t speak English, adn there are a lot of rules there as well…. so its back to New Zealand….

My aunt has been cooresponding with me and trying to get us to Aussie instead….. Steve’s parents are in if we go there, so we might just end up doing that since he also has family there and that way I’d have at least my mom’s brother and sister in law there to represent me :)… and my aunt is so completely geeked about it all, its kinda nice to have a standin mom anyway!!!

So girls…. what are you rooting for? NZ or Down Under?

  1. Hold the phone girl - are you getting married?! Congratulations!!! Andrew’s sister is getting married here in Phoenix next weekend. Let me tell you - destination weddings are the way to go for SURE. She wishes she had planned hers that way. The whole family got to attend our wedding at Walt Disney World and they all loved it. Then when it was all over, they went home and we stayed for our honeymoon. As a photographer, I never shoot a wedding under $1,000 not including any prints - it’s a very stressful job! Our photographer and videographer together cost half the entire wedding AND honeymoon combined, or about $5,000. The rest of it (flights, room, board, activities, food etc) was about $5,000. So overall, 9 days at Disney included, we had a cheap wedding! I think Amy’s is creeping into the $15,000 range and hers does not include the honeymoon. Good luck in your quest to find the perfect one for you.

Okay….you were at my wedding…..it was nice, and CHEAP! It’s all about what you want, and how to find a better way to do it so it won’t cost you too much money. We had a friend of Brad’s do our pictures, and they turned out beautiful. She gave us the negatives & prints so we could do with them as we pleased….meaning we could blow up whatever we wanted. Find someone that knows how to do cakes on the side. My aunt did ours for free…..Brad’s mom did Brad’s brother’s for free….and she has done them for the cost of the cake before. You can easily do your own invitations, we bought the card stock…..wrote out what we wanted in it…..tried to print them on our own, which was a disaster with our printer…..however we found a printer that would do it for cheap. When paying for alcohol only pay for those 21 and up…..that’s what my mom did at my brothers wedding, because there was no reason for her to pay for the others that were’nt drinking. Destination weddings are fun though…..and probably cheaper. THey both look fun!

I cut cake for FREE!!! –Can come with a flask taped to my thigh– and will burn to CD any photos I take for free… I’m simple, I work for food! Beware of the cake I may lick my fingers (I MISS CAKE) and be found later in the corner with a dirty grin on my face from my gluten coma!
