My trip.
I had a blog all typed out. Read an email and clicked on a link and it immediately didn’t open a new browser but went out of this one and couldn’t get my writing back! Darn it! Just to highight a few things:
thursday:
- Flew in and passed Jessica because I was so focused on “baggage claim” signs.
- Drove around Downtown Phoenix, ASU, and area since Heather hadn’t landed from Denver
- Ate Taco Bell at Jess’s house while kitties watched :). Olly and Tumbleweed loved watching me eat.
- Toured Jess’s house and met husband Andrew
- Went to Heather’s apartment around 11:30ish and crashed.
Friday:
- Slept in, had horrible neck ache, made chiropractor appointment
- Michigan laws prohibit “theraputic” stuff, but AZ doesn’t. Got electric shocks in my back for 10 minutes, had an ultrasound done on my neck and got deep neck massage from dr. before I got adjusted. Assistant kept flirting with Heather and I.
- Damage: $88. I’m thinking he must have been “out of network” for my BCBS insurance
that wasn’t fun, however, my neck felt OODLES. better.
- Went to the Good Egg for brunch.
- Went home to shower, heather did my makeup. Went shopping for an hour, but out of time.
- Got to show. Lots of people! Heather got tipped from will-call person to go through bar/lounge (get seated quicker)
- Got second row Center. Stage was a circle. Chairs were cirled around it. Stage would rotate 180 degrees but since not a lot were there, it didn’t that night.
- Rumors flying boy with black hat, red shirt was Elijah Woods. He was dancing around like nuts entire show. Girl from first band was standing next to him afterwards and making out with her. He’s VERY short and has big bushy eyebrows. An older lady made him stop to pose for a pic right in front of us–still was in denial it was him, even tho he smiled at us and mouthed “hi”.
- Exited the venue, “elijah wood” sat on the steps…i walked right near him (his back right near my left foot) I stared at him, and said “no I dont think thats him”
- Tegan and Sara opened with my favorite song, Living Room.
- Cake performed until midnight. –not too bad–not really into their music. Opened with cover song and ended with “your never there” (not sure if thats the title)
- Went back by tour bus’s and baricades. Absolutely NO security. Waited by bus on other side of place where other ppl were. John, lead singer of Cake, went by bus. Stopped about 10 feet away. Heather and I weren’t there to see him. I just said “good show” and he said “thanks” and just stood there. We didn’t know what to do. It looked like he thought we were there to see him or something. He tried to get in the tour bus but it was locked. I laughed and said “looks like they locked you out!” and he said “nah I’ll get in eventually” Stood there some more…didn’t say anything and then finally someone let him in the bus.
- Decided to go on the other side of the bus’s to stand. One other guy was standing there that confirmed again that it was indeed Elijah Wood. He is dating girl in band, Gogol Bordello. Oops! Shoulda got an autograph!
- Guy waves at Heather and I (We turn around, nobody else around)..walks over…

Angie: Are you the drummer for cake?
Drummer: Yup
Heather: You look a lot shorter close up!
Drummer: (laughs) Thanks!
…pause…more of a pause….
Angie: (not sure what to say). Will you sign my ticket?
Drummer: Sure!
Heather: My boyfriend really likes cake.
Angie: My boyfriend is a drummer…not knowing what to say again, asks for picture.
Heather: Hey do you kjnow when Tegan and Sara come out?
Drummer: (I’m sure feeling awesome right now) Not sure, but they are in the green room. ……Well, I guess I’d better go. I hope you girls liked the show.
A&H: Thanks.
hour passes. its FREEZING out. We decide to drive over the other side where a few others are standing. 10 min later about 12:30a.m. they come out.
Tegan comes up first. I thanked her for playing Living room and she says “of course!” and I told her I flew all the way to Michigan to see them. She asked me where I was from….that they had shows closer and heather commented that I already been to all those and Tegan asked where I was from and what I did. Heather told her they were very inspiring and got her CD signed. I got my ticket signed and awesome pictures Tegan said that she expected it to be warmer out in Az and I said “me too”. Talked about flight and how i was nervous and she said “oh i’m sure you did fine”. Sara finally came over and I thanked her too for playing Living room and we talked about the chicago show when she passed out from the heat and said “you were there!”. than got pictures … didn’t get to talk to Sara as much because at that point, a car was trying to get passed the baracades so we had to hurry and take a picture before we left.
Got home and talked about T&S songs and played their CD and heather became a fan and said “they could easily be my favorite band right now”. we talked until 3:22a.m. (5:22 Michigan time).
